The University of Pittsburgh Rowing Club, informally referred to as Pitt Crew, was formed in 1988 by a group of students who wanted to bring the sport of rowing to Pitt. Twenty-nine years later, the team has established its place amongst student organizations as one of the top competitive club sports. Our membership is currently around 60, including varsity and novice rowers.
Rowing at the collegiate level provides student athletes with new physical challenges to overcome. New recruits typically have backgrounds in running, swimming, wrestling, football, soccer or basketball, and are looking for a new arena in which to excel. Rowing at the University of Pittsburgh gives motivated and energetic students the opportunity to come together and be a part of this proud tradition. Pitt Rowing is a sports club that competes against Division 1 schools and other collegiate teams. The team races in the Head of the Ohio, which takes place every October here in the city of Pittsburgh. We also compete in regattas all along the East and South coasts.
